Recovery Ministry Leaders Retreat

IN-PERSON RETREAT | SEPT. 10-12, 2021

Dear Pastors & Emerging Leaders in Recovery Ministries:

I’d like to let you know about our upcoming Came to Believe Retreat in Nevada City, California. This will be a great opportunity for you as a pastor to learn more about and understand the people you are trying to reach in your local recovery community. Last year drug overdose deaths increased in California by nearly 100%. This is a problem which appears to only get worse year after year. The Church is in a unique position to minister to people in a way the rest of our society cannot.

This will also be a great chance for you to help an emerging recovery leader to be better equipped to lead a recovery ministry. Recovery Ministries of the Sac District, in working with Darlene Franks and the SDMI board would like to help you or a couple of your potential recovery leaders to join us at the upcoming retreat. We are offering a $100.00 scholarship to the first ten folks who sign up, limited to two people per church. If you have any questions about the retreat and how it might fit with our teachings and theology, I’d be glad to answer them at any time.

Below is a little information about the retreat and a link to Came To Believe Recovery where you can register.

Be blessed,

Dale Marsh

We’re really looking forward to the upcoming Northern California Retreat. What a great way to celebrate National Recovery Month. This scenic conference center is just outside of the historic gold rush town of Nevada City, Ca and on the western edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains. With brand new lodges and beautiful accommodations, it will be the perfect getaway from our busy lives. We will learn the Twelve Steps as the founders did them in the thirties and forties and most importantly we will draw close to God.

I’m especially excited to have many Northern California recovery leaders joining us from all over the north state and northern Nevada. Not only will we be able to learn and grow in our recovery but we will also have time to get to know others serving in recovery groups throughout the region.

This will be the first ever, in person, Came to Believe Retreat in Northern California. We hope and pray that this is the first of many to come.

WHY WILL THIS HELP RECOVERING PERSONS?

This will give them the chance to learn the early Christian methods of AA.

It will help them with their step work.

It will give them confidence to share their faith in other twelve step recovery meetings.

They will have a chance to meet folks who have been leading Christ centered meetings for many years.

HOW WILL THIS HELP THE MINISTRY OF MY CHURCH?

Just maybe, a seed will be planted to help your church begin a drug and alcohol recovery ministry. This will demonstrate to recovering persons in your church family, your commitment and support for their on-going sobriety.

If you’re interested, please feel free to contact me and let me know the names of the folks you are sending. I would like to set up a separate zoom meeting with them after the retreat to debrief on what they have learned. I can also assist them in learning how to be more confident and effective in sharing their faith at other twelve step meetings.

We have been using the Came to Believe recovery materials at OroNaz for the past seven years and have found them an excellent way to bring people to Christ and have a positive impact on our local recovery community in general.
